President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania has held high-level talks with the President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, on plans to significantly expand the conglomerate’s investments in Tanzania, with a strong focus on infrastructure, energy, fertiliser production, ports and regional trade. The meeting, held at the State House in Dar es Salaam, reaffirmed the longstanding partnership between the Government of Tanzania and the Dangote Group while laying the foundation for a new phase of strategic investments aimed at accelerating the country’s industrialisation and economic transformation.

Speaking after the meeting, Dangote described Tanzania as one of Africa’s most promising investment destinations, stressing that the Group had identified several high-impact sectors capable of driving sustainable economic growth. “We have identified areas that can deliver significant value for Tanzania, and we are ready to work together to develop them for our mutual benefit,” Dangote said.»

Among the projects discussed were the expansion of port infrastructure, construction of a 40-kilometre concrete access road to support port operations, establishment of a Special Trade Zone, development of a proposed 2,000-megawatt coal-fired power plant, a urea fertiliser plant, and transport infrastructure linking Mtwara with Mbamba Bay in southern Tanzania.

Dangote also explained the commercial and technical factors that informed the Group’s decision to site its proposed East African refinery in Lamu, Kenya, while inviting the Tanzanian Government to participate in the landmark investment.

President Samia welcomed the Dangote Group’s continued confidence in Tanzania and directed relevant ministries and government agencies to begin detailed technical engagements on the proposed investments in line with the country’s legal, policy and development framework. To ensure effective coordination, the President appointed the Minister of Planning and Investment to lead the strategic partnership with Dangote Industries Limited. Formal negotiations between both parties are expected to commence in the coming days.

As part of the next phase of engagement, a Tanzanian government delegation led by the Minister is expected to visit Nigeria to advance discussions and develop implementation frameworks for the proposed projects. According to a statement issued by the Directorate of Presidential Communications, the Tanzanian Government remains committed to strengthening partnerships with the private sector to attract productive investments, accelerate industrialisation, facilitate technology transfer and create sustainable employment opportunities for its citizens.

Dangote Industries already has a significant footprint in Tanzania through its US$500 million cement plant in Mtwara. The facility, one of the country’s largest industrial investments, has an annual production capacity of three million tonnes and serves both the Tanzanian market and neighbouring countries.

The latest engagement further strengthens the strategic relationship between Tanzania and the Dangote Group, reinforcing the company’s position as one of Africa’s foremost private sector investors driving industrialisation, infrastructure development and regional economic integration across the continent. This version has been tightened for readability, improved for newspaper style, and retains all the key facts while giving it a smoother, more professional flow.
