CEM REPORT | Some Nigerians have fallen victim to the tactics of internet fraudsters who are exploiting the ongoing SIM-NIN linkage to design links meant to defraud unsuspecting individuals.
A victim who clicked on the social media trending link revealed to Continental Economy Magazine that his account was hacked and money withdrawn by unknown persons
“I was debited the evening of the day I put my number”, the victim who pleaded anonymity has said.
The victim confirmed that he used the link in a bit to unbar his line but got debited from his bank account. The victim confirmed that the SIM is linked to his bank account and BVN.
According to a tech expert, this website served as a gateway to retrieve sensitive details linked to the SIM cards. Added that many should expect and not be surprised if in a couple of days their bank account gets debited.

He advised those who have given their numbers to this website to go to intimate their banks and get solutions before it gets too late.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has since disassociated itself from the link; (https://bit.ly/NCC-Sim-Unbar-Gov-Ng) and warned Nigerians to be careful and confirm all information before taking action.
The Federal Government had instructed all telecom operators in the country to bar all Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards not linked to NIN from outgoing calls starting Monday, 4th April, 2022. Inability to make calls caused tension among telecom subscribers who then needed to unlock their lines by any means.
Shortly after the implementation commenced, a link began to trend on social media for barred subscribers to unbar their line and get free data. The website which wears the colours of the NCC, promised to unbar lines and offer free date at the provision of phone numbers.
