CIBN, Lagos Business School Launch Accelerated Pathway to Chartered Banker Qualification

The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), in collaboration with Lagos Business School (LBS), has introduced an Accelerated Pathway to Becoming a Chartered Banker (ACIB), a professional development initiative designed to strengthen leadership capacity, promote professional excellence and provide global recognition for senior banking executives.

The programme is exclusively available to graduates of Lagos Business School’s Executive Programmes, including the Executive MBA (EMBA), Senior Management Programme (SMP), Advanced Management Programme (AMP), as well as other qualifying executive programmes.

According to the Institute, the accelerated pathway can be completed within one month. It comprises one week of intensive hybrid learning followed by the preparation and submission of a term paper.

Participants will undertake four core courses: Finance in the Global Market, Applied Banking, Bank Management and Strategy, and Lending and Credit Management.

The next cohorts of the programme are scheduled to hold from July 28 to August 1, 2026.

Speaking on the initiative, the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, Mr. Akin Morakinyo, HCIB, stated that the programme is designed to equip senior banking professionals with advanced knowledge and strategic leadership skills required to excel in today’s dynamic financial services industry.

He noted that participants will gain internationally recognised banking and management qualifications, direct access to the prestigious Associate Chartered Banker (ACIB) designation, enhanced leadership and strategic decision-making capabilities, and a stronger grounding in ethics, corporate governance and sustainable banking practices.

Morakinyo further explained that the programme offers participants the opportunity to learn from renowned faculty members and industry experts while expanding their professional networks through interaction with accomplished executives across the banking sector.

He added that the flexible hybrid learning format has been specifically designed to accommodate the demanding schedules of senior executives without compromising the quality of learning.

The CIBN Registrar emphasized that the initiative aligns with the Institute’s commitment to developing high-performing leaders capable of promoting professionalism, ethical standards and excellence within Nigeria’s financial services industry.

Eligible executives have been encouraged to take advantage of the programme and enroll for the forthcoming cohort.
