NCC to Unveil New Simplified Tariff Plan on December 13

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced that it will unveil a new simplified tariff plan for telecommunications operators on December 13, 2024. This move is part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to improve consumer experience and promote fair competition within the industry.

Addressing Data Depletion

The NCC has been actively addressing consumer complaints, particularly regarding data depletion issues. To ensure transparency and accountability, the commission has mandated telecom operators to engage reputable audit firms to investigate these concerns.

“What consumers must know is that usage of data is not the same on every Android phone,” said Aminu Maida, executive vice chairman of the NCC. “As a consumer-centric regulator, the commission has embarked on public awareness campaigns to educate consumers about data usage and billing.”

Simplifying Tariff Plan

 The new tariff plan will simplifies offerings, making it easier for consumers to choose the best plans for their needs. By limiting the number of tariff plans to seven, the NCC seeks to promote transparency and fairness.

“At the end of completing the exercise, a limit has been given to the operators. With this, no operator is expected to have more than seven tariff plans,” Maida explained. “We believe that this measure will bring some kind of relief to telecom consumers and will eliminate misconceptions on the use of data and airtime.”
