….…Lagos State ranks as the 5th largest economy in Africa, though it is a sub national, yet we have deployed vast resources………… Lagos State Deputy Governor

Speaking as Guest of Honour at the maiden Enterprise Risk Management Conference organised by the Association of Enterprise Risk Management Professionals (AERMP) Nigeria at James Hope University, Lekki, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr, Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, who was represented by Engr. Festus Todowede of the Lagos State Safety Commission, said enterprise security management can no longer be treated with levity due to the rapidly evolving technological landscape.

The Deputy Governor noted that cyber threats have become borderless, asymmetric and unpredictable, stressing that attacks on financial systems, defence infrastructure, supply chains and logistics operations have become regular occurrences globally. He commended the leadership of AERMP Nigeria, led by Dame Taiwo Ige, for organising the inaugural conference to deepen awareness and strengthen professional responses to evolving security challenges.

He further stated that governments must continue to strengthen legal and institutional frameworks to protect critical information systems, adding that the enactment of Cybercrime and Data Protection laws remains essential in addressing abuses associated with the internet and social media.

Hamzat declared: “Lagos State ranks as the 5th largest economy in Africa, though it is a sub national, yet we have deployed vast resources to ensure the security and fidelity of the investment and enterprise environment for global participation and this has enabled notable information and systems management operations to pick Lagos State as their choice location for siting their regional hubs in Africa.”

He added: “I assure you that our focus, in Lagos State, is to ensure a resilient technology-driven and economically stable megacity where businesses and investments thrive with citizens, investors and tourists assured of their safety and security.” He also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening institutional resilience, technology advancement and stakeholder engagement towards safeguarding the future of Lagos and Nigeria at large.
