The prestigious Lagos Country Club (LCC) recently hosted its annual New Year Party, a dazzling fusion of elegance and strategic intent. The event, which drew the crème de la crème of Nigeria’s social and business circles, served as both a celebration of the New Year and the official unveiling of the Club’s ambitious 2026 Developmental Roadmap.
The evening saw distinguished members and guests arrive in resplendent attire, transforming the Club’s grounds into a vibrant hub of fellowship. The occasion was further elevated by the presence of His Royal Majesty, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, the Akarigbo of Remo, and His Royal Majesty, Oba Lawrence Jayeoba, the Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo, whose attendance added a layer of traditional prestige to the modern festivities.
In his welcome address, LCC President Mr. Seyi Adewunmi reinforced the institution's standing as a premier national landmark.
The Lagos Country Club is far more than a social space; it is a vibrant ecosystem of over 3,000 members who represent the pinnacle of the Nigerian elite and the engine room of our professional landscape, Adewunmi stated.
Outlining priorities for 2026, Adewunmi emphasized infrastructural renewal and an enhanced member experience. The centerpiece of this vision is the proposed Youth and E Section (YES)—a cutting-edge facility designed to engage the Club’s younger demographic through technology and modern recreation. To bring this to fruition, the President made a strategic appeal for the financial support of the Lagos State Government, noting that the YES Project aligns with broader societal goals of youth empowerment and long-term institutional sustainability.
Are Kolawole Oyefeso, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, commended the leadership for maintaining high standards. Addressing new members, he remarked that this is a great Club built by the collective efforts of past officers and advised them to continue to build upon the legacy you inherit.
Representing Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu, the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Hon.
Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information, drew parallels between the resilience of the Club and the spirit of Lagos State. He noted that just like the Club, Lagos State also faced challenges in 2025—including the Great Nigeria Insurance House fire and tragic maritime accident, which they equally surmounted, demonstrating an uncommon ability to rebound.
The Governor’s message highlighted Lagos' recent tourism boom and global event hosting as reflections of the same "can-do spirit" that defines the LCC, urging members to continue to see the Club as a symbol of unity, harmony, and endurance, values that Lagos itself stands for
A major highlight of the evening was the presentation of Special Awards to former Management Council members for their selfless service.
In a standout moment, the 2025 Resource Person Award was presented to Mr. Segun Shonubi, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee. Mr. Shonubi was lauded for his exceptional commitment and strategic communication efforts that significantly elevated the Club’s brand visibility over the past year.
The night concluded with high-octane entertainment and networking, marking a
vibrant start to a landmark year. The festivities ended with formal toasts to the Lagos
Country Club, Lagos State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, ushering in a prosperous 2026.
