CEM SPECIAL, ENTERTAINMENT | I remember in 2011 during my earlier years trying to understand what it means to be a world class performer.
A friend of mine, Caleb Omaye also known as ceefour, told me about a link to a show where Timaya, P-square , 2baba, Phyno , Olamide, flavor, D’banj, Face, Banky w, Wande cole, Kcee, Dr Sid, Harry song, Mi, e.t.c were billed to perform. There was opportunity for few upcoming artists to perform, and so, I decided to give it a try. One thing I was not told, is that I was going to see over 300 upcoming Artists, also auditioning for the few slots.
I traveled from Lagos, down to the venue of the show, without a proper invite. (That boy Trippy must really be thinking he is the organizer or he believes he is the owner of the entertainment industry lolz)
Being treated like s**t alongside other artists, some couldn’t take it and left, while those of us that waited auditioned. Out of the large number that auditioned, only 8 were needed just for 30 seconds performance each. It was; ‘sing well, you finish your 30sec performance and if you don’t, the audience will boo you out.’
Wow! 30sec in front of over 11k physical people, plus over 100 officers and close to 200 team members of Organizers, to be showed on MTVbase for the whole world to see, that was the coolest thing for all the artist there.
It was a yearly show that even celebrities like Rudeboy and Mr.P , 2Baba , Phyno, Olamide, Timaya, flavor all looked forward to.
That was the show that brought 50cent with the whole crew of the G-unit for the very first time to Nigeria . That was the same period 50cent was the biggest rapper in the world and G-unity, same period Shaddy, Aftermath was and still the biggest Entertainment company in world
Okay Enough of this fairy tales!!!!
During my auditioning, cos of my singing and dancing style, I was picked quickly to be among the 8 out of the over 300 artists.
The Host was Gbenga Adeyinka the first while DJ was Dj Cwitch and Dj blaze .
At that Enugu show, I was the 3rd artist introduced to come on stage after the first 2 artist came on and they were booed out cos they couldn’t hold the crowd. Performing in front of thousands of people who paid and just wanted to see MR.P and Rudeboy, it was not easy.
Then, just imaging P-square steps out then, rich, super handsome, flourless artist, every guy’s wanna be, every girl’s kind of guy.
At this point the crowd was already screaming; we want p-square! we want P-square! and then, Gbenga Adeyinka the first, the comedian of the Federal republic of Nigeria went ahead and introduced an unknown performing artist called “Trippy “
Boom! the crowd went crazy and the angry crowd change their music toward the unknown artist; get of the stage! get of the stage!

While the crowd were shouting get of the stage! get of the stage! Dj Cwitch just slot in the Music ‘Na you go lose’.
And the unknown artist just started singing while dancing like Michael Jackson, Usher, P-square combined with facial look of Wizkid…. in less than 5 seconds, the yelling crowd got connected to the song and the performance that accompanied it and suddenly became interested in the Artist

And when I got to the chorus, everybody started singing along like they knew the song before. Instead of 30sec I was earlier billed to perform, I ended up performing for 11mins.
To my surprise, because I wowed everybody, the crowd wanted more.
That was the beginning of the brand Peter Trippy
