Says Ofala embodies identity, continuity and collective aspiration
Globacom has renewed its commitment to the preservation of Nigeria’s cultural heritage with its sponsorship of the 2026 Ofala Festival in Onitsha, as the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, marks the 25th Ofala of his reign.
The telecommunications giant, which has supported the historic festival for more than 15 years, said the partnership reflects its commitment to culture, community development and national progress.
The 2026 Ofala Festival, themed “Igba Mbo, Iga N’Iru – Strive and Advance: From Resilience to Progress,” celebrates the resilience, enterprise and progressive spirit of Ndi Onicha.
Globacom said its continued partnership with the festival goes beyond conventional sponsorship, describing Ofala as an important cultural institution that preserves the identity and collective memory of the people.
“Ofala is far more than an annual cultural celebration. It is a living expression of identity, continuity and collective aspiration,” the company said.

According to Globacom, the preservation of cultural heritage and the advancement of society are not competing objectives but “mutually reinforcing pillars of a progressive nation.”
The company also said the theme of this year’s festival aligns with its “Never Settle for Less” philosophy, which encourages Nigerians to remain connected to their roots while striving for greater achievements.
“Never Settle for Less is a philosophy of progress: to respect the foundations upon which we stand, while seeking to broaden possibilities, deepen impact and move the nation forward,” Globacom stated.
It added: “We are proud to support a cultural institution that honours its roots while engaging the future.”
The 2026 Ofala Festival will feature a series of cultural, social and community-focused activities, including the Obi’s sacred period of seclusion and ceremonial emergence.
Other highlights are the Medical, Health and Wellbeing Community Outreach, International Oreze Art Exhibition, Youth Carnival, Iru Ofala and Azu Ofala, which will provide the grand finale of the celebrations.
Globacom said its support for these activities is part of its broader corporate citizenship and cultural stewardship initiatives.
The company noted that cultural institutions have an important role to play in preserving heritage, strengthening community identity and promoting social development.
“Just as Ofala draws strength from ancestral foundations while looking towards the future, Globacom has continued to champion connectivity, innovation and digital inclusion as tools for expanding opportunity,” it said.
The company maintained that its long-standing partnership with Ofala is founded on a shared belief that genuine progress is strongest when rooted in identity and heritage.
Through the 2026 sponsorship, Globacom said it is reaffirming its commitment to a Nigeria where culture is preserved, communities are empowered and tradition serves as a springboard for progress.
