CEM REPORT, ENERGY| Nigeria’s gas sector witnessed a transformative development with the official commissioning of the 300 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscf) Kwale Gas Gathering (KGG) Facility and the associated Nedogas Plant in Delta State’s Umusam community.
This collaborative project, spearheaded by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and Nedogas Development Company Limited (including Xenergy Limited), is poised to significantly impact Nigeria’s gas landscape by mitigating potential gas shortages, fostering environmental sustainability, and propelling economic growth.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, lauded the project as a pivotal moment in the nation’s gas development trajectory. He commended the project’s contribution to advancing sustainability, energy efficiency, and economic expansion. “The NCDMB and Nedogas Limited deserve recognition for their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts in bringing this remarkable project to fruition,” remarked Ekpo.
Furthermore, he emphasized the project’s role in demonstrating the efficacy of the government’s local content policy, which prioritizes increased Nigerian participation in the oil and gas sector while fostering domestic expertise and capabilities.
Nedogas Plant to Bolster Gas Supply, Exports, and Job Creation
The completion of the Nedogas Plant represents a significant advancement for Nigeria’s gas sector. The plant is anticipated to substantially enhance the country’s ability to extract and utilize its natural gas reserves.
This will not only bolster domestic gas supply but also strengthen Nigeria’s position as a gas exporter. Additionally, the project is projected to generate employment opportunities and stimulate industrial growth, ultimately contributing to national energy security.
Kwale Gas Gathering Facility Addresses Environmental Concerns
The Kwale Gas Gathering Facility tackles a longstanding environmental challenge – gas flaring. This facility captures associated gas that would otherwise be vented into the atmosphere, transforming a potential environmental hazard into a valuable resource.
This aligns perfectly with the federal government’s “Decade of Gas” initiative, which emphasizes maximizing the utilization of natural gas resources.
The Minister concluded his remarks by highlighting the critical importance of sustained collaboration amongst all stakeholders involved in the gas sector.
He reassured the industry that the Ministry of Petroleum Resources (Gas) remains firmly committed to supporting initiatives that enhance local content development, attract investments, cultivate industry capacities, and empower Nigerians.
NCDMB Underlines Commitment to Partnerships and Local Content Development
Echoing the Minister’s sentiments, Felix Ogbe, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, characterized the project’s success as a “triumph of collaborative effort and shared vision.”
He underscored the project’s significance in demonstrating the effectiveness of collaboration between the government, private sector, and local communities in generating economic value.
“NCDMB will continue to support similar initiatives that promote local content, drive economic growth, and improve the quality of life of Nigerians.”
Ogbe reaffirmed the NCDMB’s unwavering commitment to fostering such partnerships and creating a conducive environment for investments. He highlighted the Board’s pride in its strategic projects developed over the past decade with various stakeholders, all aligned with achieving the federal government’s policy objectives.
