Auchi Polytechnic Business Administration Class 99, Holds Reunion

The Easter season was seized as an opportunity to unite again after 26 years of graduation. Though this group has been meeting via online medium, Class 1999 from the department of Business Administration, Auchi Polytechnic organized a reunion on the 18 and 19 of April 2025 at Limoh Hotel, Benin City.

President of the Alumni Association Nosa Ogbeifu while speaking with CEM on Friday evening, the first day of the event summarized the purpose of the reunion as coming together to discuss strategies to lift each other, get professional knowledge on life endeavors in the midst of merriment after many years of dispersal upon graduation 26 years ago.

There was no dull moment neither was there a gloomy countenance as the event was loaded with activities which include lectures, networking, general meeting and gala nite. The atmosphere was consuming with these activities being accompanied by befitting meals, jokes and gist about the days at school.

Prof Anthony Afemikhe, who gave a lecture at the event on “Looking Towards Retirement: The need for Sustainable Experiences”, emphasized the need to do something that will enable one to sustain his income after retirement.

The Educational Evaluator from the University of Benin alluded to the fact that retirement brings the need to still engage in other social activities, take care of one’s health, contribute to community development and maintain independence on others. Therefore, creating a venture that will ensure sustenance of income is of utmost essence. Some of those ventures include saving strategy, investing on skills that will be useful later in life, buying properties that will appreciate in value, establishing a business to be nurtured, buying stocks and securities and others.

For Dr Amina Okhakhu who spoke on health, the need to keep our physical health, mental health and emotional health intact, is very crucial. Age related illnesses are likely to occur at some point in someone’s life. What is important is knowing how to manage them and limit their impact. However, there are preventable ones that require deliberate efforts.

The ENT Surgeon from UBTH advised the participants to regulate their lifestyle, reduce excessing intake of alcohol and hard substances, ensure good diet and exercise adequately. She emphasized that good health at old age reduces burden on family members and keep up productivity.

While speaking with CEM Television before his lecture, Prof Anthony Afemikhe commended the Auchi Polytechnic, Business Administration Class 1999 for the initiative. “When two hands wash themselves, they become clean together. With this coming together, they are able to share opportunities for the good of each other. Even the institution will equally be better for it”; he said.

The big project for the Auchi Polytechnic, Business Administration Class 1999 is the establishment of a Cooperative for the set for which the process has begun. The President, Mr. Nosa enjoined members to keep up their cooperation to realize the project in record time. This will in no small measure benefit its members regarding meeting their business and welfare needs.
