ArtETHICS and TUSAA Take Young People Beyond the Classroom Through Object-Based Learning and Museum Experience

ArtETHICS Awareness Initiative, in collaboration with The Unity Skill Acquisition Academy (TUSAA), has successfully concluded an engaging Object-Based Learning (OBL) Experience and Guided Museum Tour for young people at the Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art, Pan-Atlantic University.

Held under the theme, “Raising a Generation of Integrity,” the initiative provided participants with an opportunity to learn beyond the conventional classroom by exploring the connections between art, culture, ethics and everyday life.

Through the Object-Based Learning approach, participants were encouraged to closely observe, question, interpret and engage with artworks and cultural objects. The interactive experience enabled them to connect what they encountered in the museum with important issues such as integrity, responsibility, identity, respect, values and character.

The guided tour of the Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art also exposed the young participants to Nigeria’s rich artistic and cultural heritage. Through direct engagement with the museum’s collections, they gained a deeper understanding of how art can communicate ideas, preserve history, reflect society and inspire positive social change.

The students responded enthusiastically to the experience, expressing excitement and amazement at the new knowledge and perspectives they gained. What began as a museum visit evolved into an interactive and thought-provoking learning experience, challenging the participants to see art not simply as something to admire, but as a powerful tool for learning, reflection, character formation and social transformation.

Speaking on the initiative, the Founder of ArtETHICS Awareness Initiative, Tishegunfunmi Ade’ Adegbesan, emphasised the importance of making values education experiential and relevant to young people.
