CEM REPORT, FINANCE | Amidst fanfare, commendations and optimism, Olufunmilayo Ajoke Olaniyi has been inaugurated as the 3rd Chairman of the Lekki and District Society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

Olaniyi Inauguration

It was a double celebration as the ICAN Lekki and District Society also celebrated its 2nd anniversary while its 3rd Chairman was inaugurated by the President of ICAN, Davidson C.S Alaribe (Chief), MA, FCA, on Saturday, 8th June at the Lekki Coliseum, Lagos.

Olufunmilayo Olaniyi succeeded Olugbenga Oyewole who has successfully completed his one year tenure as the Chairman of the District.

Before her elevation to the position of a Chairman, Olufunmilayo Olaniyi served as Vice Chairman in the executive headed by Gbenga Oyewole, a position where she exhibited an uncommon commitment to the vision of the district.

Olufunmilayo Olaniyi was described as a “visionary leader and goal getter, a good networker, a socialite, a giver and lover of God” by the Chairman of the Investiture Organizing Committee and Vice Chairman of the District, Patrick Akamiokhor, FCA.

It was therefore a corroboration as Olufunmilayo Olaniyi, in her acceptance speech, read out an array of her team’s objectives for the district in the next one year to include transformation of the district to category A, inaugurating the foundation for the building of a permanent office space, digitalization of the district’s database and operations and acquiring an 18 seaters bus for the district’s operations.

Others are instituting a welfare program for members while expanding the CSR and community engagement of the district as a way to touch those in need. Her team also plans to implement some strategic mentorship programs (such as job fares, meet and greet and others), enhance capacity building training programs for members and continue to engage sister districts for wider involvement in the Institute’s affairs.

Her contribution to ICAN is not only at the district level but up to national level. She was commended for being the anchor of ICAN radio program; ‘ICAN on Air’ by the President of ICAN which according to the President, has impacted the Institute positively.

Prof Oladokun who spoke with CEM before the commencement of the event, expressed confidence in the ability of Olufunmilayo Olaniyi to lead the district with successes. This same confidence was expressed by Patrick Akamiokhor as he rounded up his welcome remarks when he said; “we have full confidence that Funmi Olaniyi can deliver.”

Olufunmilayo Olaniyi studied mass communication from the University of Lagos up to Masters level before venturing into accounting at KPMG where she wrote ICAN exams and qualified as a Chartered Accountant. She currently works at Flutterwave as Head of Business Development. [READ FULL PROFILE HERE]
