Now, Kenya and Uganda are taking their tourism offerings to the next level with a groundbreaking cross-cultural initiative. The initiative kicked off with the recent Uganda Festival, a vibrant four-day celebration held across the Kenyan coastal havens of Kwale, Kilifi, and Mombasa. Organized by the Ugandan Consulate in Mombasa, the festival served as a delicious introduction to Ugandan culture, business daily reports.
Visitors were treated to a sensory feast, indulging in traditional Ugandan cuisine and immersing themselves in captivating dance performances by the renowned Ndere Troupe. Ugandan comedian Anne Kansiime added a dash of humor to the festivities, ensuring a memorable experience for all.
“The aim of the festival is to expose the unique Ugandan products to a wider number of corporate Kenyans, and other regional and international tourists at the Kenya coast,” said Ambassador Paul Mukumbya, Uganda Consul General to Mombasa.
This sentiment highlights the core objective of the initiative – to bridge the gap between the two nations’ tourism sectors. As Mukumbya emphasizes, “Kenya is the number one source market for visitors to Uganda. Last year, the official figures indicate that almost 500,000 Kenyans visited Uganda.”
