CEM REPORT, FINANCE | Mr Rasheed Bolanrinwa has been returned as the President of the Association of Corporate Affairs Managers of Banks (ACAMB) to serve a second tenure of the association.

Members of the ACAMB were all in satisfactory and optimistic mood during the Association’s Annual General Meeting to elect new executive upon expiration of the tenure of the old executive. The scorecard of the outgone executive was applauded while being optimistic on the agenda for the next 2 years.

Indeed, the real scorecard of leadership is in the response of the followers. The re-election of Rasheed Bolanrinwa was not only overwhelmingly supported but excitedly affirmed in an atmosphere best described as electrifying. Members were heard chanting RB-71; RB-72; RB-73; patterned after some of the viral videos from some polling units in the last presidential election counting. It was a clear definition of endorsement and acceptance of Rasheed Bolanrinwa’s leadership

ACAMB is an association of the image makers of the banking industry whose performance in this role has had significant impact on the industry especially during the naira redesign and scarcity period when Banks were being attacked by angry customers. They were able to speak out that Banks were not hoarding the naira as was being speculated.

In a more organized stance, the Association under the last executive was able to establish some credible fora for engagement between the banking sector and the general public who are consumers of banking services.

Rasheed Bolanrinwa’s new focus

While speaking with the media, Rasheed Bolanrinwa underscored the need to continue and escalate these fora especially the Annual Stakeholders Conference upon the success of the past two editions. For the next edition, he hinted that ACAMB will concentrate on educating Bank customers to debunk some of the myth surrounding banks and banking operations.

A common one is the misinformation about bank’s service charges on operations being commonly misconstrued as ‘deductions’. Bolanrinwa promised to embark on wide ranged customers’ sensitization to make right some of these misinformation on this issue and others.

Rasheed Bolanrinwa will lead ACAMB for 2004 and 2025 supported by other members of the newly elected executives.

ACAMB was founded in 1996 with a mandate to combat the negative perception of the banking industry, restore ethics and public confidence in the sector. It was founded by pioneer Communication professionals through encouragement by Banks Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) with a joint purpose of collectively changing the not too positive perception of the industry back in the day.
