CEM REPORT, EDUCATION | The Vice Chancellor of Pan-Atlantic University, PAU, Lagos, Prof. Enase Okonedo has admonished the matriculating students of the University to work hard not to fall short of the excellent performance of their predecessors that graduated from the university.
Prof. Okonedo gave the charge in a motivating speech delivered to the new students of the school, parents and friends at the 10th Matriculation of the University held Saturday at the school premises.
“As we mark ten years, what it is that stand as a testament to the sort of leaders we are producing? They are the testimonies that come from the various organizations that our students intern in. Increasingly, Pan-Atlantic Students who go on internship are being known not only for the breadth of the skills they bring to the work place, but also, the work ethics and certain values which we hold dear.
“Therefore, as you become students of the Pan-Atlantic University today, officially, I encourage you that these values of integrity, of respect and of community, that you hold these and nurture them and indeed aim to grow these, because, as leaders of tomorrow, these are the qualities that will stand you out”; Okonedo said.
A total number of 562 students participated in the matriculation ceremony which made them bonafide students spread across 11 faculties of the school. This, according to Prof Okonedo is a good measure of growth when compared to the number admitted 10 years ago into only 3 faculties.
Following the Vice Chancellor’s admonition, morals is one of the core foci of PAU in addition to the academic excellence of the school. The Chief Operating Officer of the school, Dr Peter Bankole underscored the place of mentorship in building up the students morally.
“If you want high quality education, where people are trained to the very best academically and also in terms of value system, this is the place to be”; he said.
According to him, mentorship is one way the school is inculcating value system in their students. They are closely guided; goals are set together, the goals are measured together and there is a follow through to ensure that the goals are met.

To the woman at the center of mentorship of the school, Mrs Nkiru Ukachukwu, Director of career and alumni office, the school is deliberate in hiring people that have values and who in turn are able to mentor the students to what they need to be.
“The mission of the university is at the heart of everything we do, which is to groom professionals who will go out into the world and make a difference. So, every person hired has that mission in mind thereby helping students get to where we want to be; to be well groomed professionals that will add value to the community”; Mrs Ukachukwu said.

The Pan-Atlantic University is one of the privately owned universities in Nigeria approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2002. Upon approval, the LBS became first school of the University which had existed since 1991 as an individual entity offering post-graduate programs in business.
