Commissioner for Information and Strategy for Lagos State, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso has expressed the commitment of Lagos State government towards integrating AI-powered technologies in the state’s information management especially in the forthcoming local government election.
Mr. Gbenga Omotoso made the pronouncement at the ongoing 3rd Nigerian Media Leaders’ Summit theme: “Market Squared: Turning Connections into Gold in the AI Age.” Mr. Gbenga Omotoso is the special guest at the heads of medial gathering in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

“As we approach the Local Government Elections in Lagos State, AI-powered solutions present unique opportunities to strengthen democratic participation. These technologies will be instrumental in enhancing transparency, promoting civic engagement, and combating misinformation—especially during this crucial period.
Through AI-integrated e-Governance platforms, we plan to boost voter education, ensuring timely, accurate, and easily digestible information reaches citizens across all Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). These platforms will help debunk fake news, simplify electoral procedures, and encourage peaceful participation in the democratic process.” Omotosho said
He cited the unveiling of a comprehensive AI Adoption Strategy for Lagos State by the Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology as a stride in AI innovation in Lagos state. This strategy, he said, includes the deployment of AI-powered chatbots, integration of AI into e-Governance services, and the introduction of state-wide AI guidelines
Omotosho sought media collaboration as the state enter the local electoral season
He said: “I therefore urge media professionals and stakeholders to collaborate with the Lagos State Government in promoting responsible journalism and fact-based reporting as we enter this electoral season.
“Together, by fusing professional expertise with the transformative power of artificial intelligence, we can protect the sanctity of our democratic processes and ensure that every Lagosian is well-informed and empowered to make the right choices at the polls.”
