AERMP Conference: Professionals dissect Investment and Security Act 2025 and financial market risks

Success is embedded in risks, until you take the risk, success is elusive. But it is risky not to know the risks since that prepares you to understand them, mitigate them or control them.

The Association of Enterprise Risk Management Professionals, AERMP has been active in the areas of creating awareness, educating stakeholders and entrenching the needed compliance culture in organizations in Nigeria.

AERMP held its conference and induction on Saturday August 16, 2025 at the James Hope University with the theme; Investment and Security Act 2025: Implication for Enterprise Risk Management and Compliance in the Financial Markets.

The conference and induction brought together key institutions in the Nigerian regulatory and enforcement space; Security and Exchange Commission (SEC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to divulge implementation implications for Nigerian financial market operators.

For NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), represented by AGG Archie-Abia Ibinabo, fsi, NDLEA Director Seaports Operations, “Under the 2025 Act, risk management is no longer a support function; it is a strategic imperative. The Act places greater accountability on boards, executives, and compliance officers to ensure that their organizations can identify vulnerabilities early, respond quickly, and recover with resilience.”

Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, Executive Chairman of EFCC declared that “Investment and Security Act 2025 is not just another legislative piece, it is a bold calibration of the rules that govern our entire financial system.” He challenged all regulatory stakeholders to rise up to the challenge of protecting our financial system. Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede was represented by ACI 1 Ahmed Ghali, Acting Zonal Director, Lagos 2.

He emphasized the inculcation of compliance into the management system at all levels, shifting compliance from margin to taking hold of the entire management strategy.

The conference was an opportunity for AERMP and Jame Hope University to highlight the modus operadi and benefits of the exchange programe between the two bodies. MBA in Enterprise Risk Management from James Hope University confer an automatic membership of AERMP on the holder, while a Certified Risk Analyst professional qualification from AERMP qualifies holder for an MBA in Enterprise Risk Management in James Hope University.

The Acting Vice Chancellor of the University gave insight into the learning scheme in the school with emphasis on its dual approach. According to her, every course in James Hope University is taught by an academic course handler and a professional handler. This is to equipe the individual with a balanced and grounded knowledge in the field.

Earlier in her welcome speech, the President of AERMP, Mrs Taiwo Ige express timeliness of the theme of the conference following the strategic place of risk managers and compliance officers in the effective implementation of the Investment and Security Act 2025.
