CEM REPORT, AGROFOODS | An Agro-Cargo International Airport has been tipped to commence operations before the end of the year. The airport owned by the Ogun State Government will provide both cargo and passenger services.

This statement was made by Dare Odufuwokan, who serves as the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor of Ogun on Public Communications, during an interview on TVC Breakfast Show in Lagos.

Odufuwokan went further to explain that this multipurpose facility situated within Iperu-Ilishan Road in Ikenne LGA, Remo economic zone, would strategically play a major role towards reducing congestion in ports around commercial hubs within Nigeria.

He continued that complementary infrastructure development had been initiated such as Dry Port in Kajola and Olokonla Port which would lessen pressure on neighbouring Lagos ports.

It is worth noting that the airport’s strategic location would allow it to cater to heavy industries within the Lagos-Ogun corridor and the Agbara Industrial Layout,

He also emphasized how important it is for businesses looking for growth opportunities within Africa’s most populous nation to consider investing with confidence, knowing they have access not only to an international airport but also other supporting facilities like dry port facilities, ensuring their products are shipped out efficiently.

Odufuwokan stated confidently that once operational; Agro-Cargo International Airport would create job opportunities while opening up new towns around its vicinity leading to the emergence of an economic zone around it.

The airport offers a plethora of features such as a 3.4km runway, apron, passenger terminal, control tower, taxiway, fire station & electrical substation, fuel depot, and patrol road; all equipped with non-instrument navigation systems and enclosed by a well-built fence and drainage system.

Most notably, is that the Agro-Cargo International Airport’s cargo hub is designed to function as an aerotropolis that boasts an international testing centre for certifying goods intended for exportation, alongside a specialized agro-processing zone dedicated to processing raw agricultural materials with exceptional standards.

It’s clear from the design and statements of Odufuwokan that the planned commencement of operation indicates Ogun State’s readiness for business expansion and investment attraction.
