CEM REPORT, ECONOMY| In a proactive approach to fostering a robust compliance environment within the Nigerian communications industry, the Compliance Institute, Nigeria (CIN), has extended its arm of collaboration to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
The collaboration aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and insights on compliance across various sectors of the Nigerian economy.
This is according to a press release during a courtesy visit by CIN to Dr Aminu Maida, Chief Executive Officer, NCC, Thursday, May 16, 2024.
Furthermore, the CIN seeks to collaborate with the NCC on capacity-building initiatives for compliance professionals within the communications industry.
Supporting CIN Legislative Efforts
The CIN sought the NCC’s support for the passage of the Compliance Institute, Nigeria (CIN) Charter Bill. This bill, which underwent its first Senate reading in 2023, holds significant weight in strengthening Nigeria’s efforts to address deficiencies identified by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) that led to the ‘Grey Listing’.
Enhancing Professional Development
The CIN extended an invitation to NCC staff to participate in their certification programs, designed to equip professionals with the latest knowledge and expertise within the compliance industry.
The CIN’s bi-weekly webinar series, attracting an average of 700 attendees per session, is another valuable resource. Covering a wide range of topics, from compliance fundamentals to anti-money laundering and data protection, the CIN welcomes sponsorship opportunities from the NCC.

Calling for Increased Member Participation:
While commending its members’ cooperation, the CIN encourages even greater participation in areas like faculty development, module creation, and training delivery. This increased member engagement will further strengthen the institute’s offerings.
The CIN called on Maida to consider sponsoring NCC staff to attend its upcoming compliance seminar, to signify the NCC’s commitment to professional excellence and capacity building within the Commission.
In recognition of Dr. Aminu Maida, esteemed leadership as, Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, the CIN offered Maida the prestigious designation of Fellow, the pinnacle recognition of professional achievement, to be conferred at their Fellowship award ceremony later this year.
