In a bid to enhance its tourism appeal and showcase its rich cultural heritage, the Lagos State Government has introduced a series of monthly landmark tours. These tours, designed to span both land and water routes, are part of a broader initiative to elevate Lagos’s profile as a global hub for transportation and tourism.
The announcement was made by Idris Aregbe, Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, during a special event hosted for Nigerians in the diaspora. Themed “Lagos Tourism is Rising,” the event aimed to highlight the city’s growing attractiveness to both domestic and international travelers.
“Through this initiative, we aim to promote our cultural heritage and strengthen ties with the diaspora community,” Aregbe stated.
“It’s an opportunity to explore Lagos’s scenic views, delve into its rich cultural history, and immerse oneself in its vibrant atmosphere.”
The monthly tours will also serve as a token of appreciation to the diaspora and international visitors who have recognized Lagos as a prime destination for both business and leisure activities.
The inaugural tour, a captivating journey through the city’s heart, included visits to significant landmarks such as the J. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History and the renowned Nike Art Gallery. The day culminated in a celebratory dinner event.
Experiencing Lagos in Style
Participants experienced the vibrant city through a diverse range of transportation options, including double-decker buses, motorbike convoys, and the stylish Lagos Ride vehicles. This allowed for a dynamic exploration of iconic areas such as Ikoyi, Lekki, and Lagos Island.
“The roadshow provided guests with an unforgettable experience,” Aregbe further elaborated. “The double-decker tour bus, the energetic motorbike convoys, and the elegant Lagos Ride vehicles created a lively atmosphere filled with music, dance, and engaging conversations as we journeyed through the city.”
The event was graced by the presence of several dignitaries, including Khadijat Omotayo, Presidential Aide on Constituency Affairs, and Oluwatoyin Atekoja, Permanent Secretary for Lagos Tourism. Renowned figures from the cultural sphere, such as Nike Davies-Okundaye, the esteemed artist, actor Femi Adebayo, and the celebrated DJ DSF, also graced the occasion.
