CEM REPORT, ADVISORY| The Association of Enterprise Risk Management Professionals (AERMP) has called on government at all levels to take precautions and beef up measures against the resurgence of COVID-19 in Nigeria.
The association in an advisory letter seen by CEM, called on the federal and state government in Nigeria to mirror Singapore, a country with a robust healthcare system who has recently been hit by a wave of the virus and be reminded of the virus’s unpredictability and potential for rapid spread.
AERMP made recommendations to the government while calling on the government to take swift action towards preparedness.
The statement reads:
As a risk management professional body, we are sounding the alarm to alert the Federal and State Governments in Nigeria to take immediate risk-mitigating measures against the resurgence of COVID-19. The recent outbreak in Singapore, a country with a robust healthcare system, serves as a stark reminder of the virus’s unpredictability and potential for rapid spread.
URGENT CALL TO ACTION
We urge the Federal and State Governments to:
1. Enhance Surveillance: Reinforce COVID-19 surveillance at all entry points, including airports, seaports, and land borders.
2. Reinvigorate Testing: Scale up COVID-19 testing, including PCR and rapid antigen tests, to quickly identify and isolate cases.
3. Vaccination Boost: Intensify vaccination efforts, focusing on high-risk groups, and consider booster shots for those previously vaccinated.
4. Reinforce Infection Prevention and Control: Strengthen IPC measures in healthcare facilities, schools, and public spaces.
5. Prepare Healthcare Infrastructure: Ensure adequate hospital capacity, oxygen supply, and medical personnel to handle potential surges.
6. Promote Public Awareness: Launch targeted campaigns to educate the public on COVID-19 risks, prevention, and response.
7. Collaborate and Coordinate: Foster interagency collaboration and coordinate with international partners to share intelligence and best practices.
