Usagbe Club Holds Second Marathon Competition for Secondary Schools

CEM REPORT, HUMANITARIAN | The sporting spirit of the youth in Weppa Wanno was again lifted during the yuletide season as Usagbe Club of Nigeria held the second edition of its annual Secondary School Marathon held on 24th of December 2022.

In the 2022 edition, 16 schools competed with some freelance students making a total of about 170 athletes that graced the day. This is an improvement from the 2021 edition that feature 15 schools and a total of 90 students.

Enike Armstrong from Providence Secondary School Agenebode emerged the winner of the 10km race for the male categories while Miss Mercy Sunday from Igiode secondary school came first for the female categories, she defeated last year champion Stella Izuagie.


The two winners explained their level of preparation for the annual events. According to Enike Armstrong, he has been running Agenebode to Fugar, a distance of 24 kilometers on a regular basis in preparation for the competition.

usagbe marathonCurtesy of Usagbe Club, winners went home with N50,000, second place got N40,000 while third place got N30,000. The youngest male and female athletes had consolation prices of N10,000 each. The coach of Igiode Secondary came out best coach of the tournament.

The president of the club, Sir Paul Izenuwa, who kicked off the race, announced that Usagbe Club of Nigeria will sponsor the first 10 athletes to participate in other international Marathons such as Lagos access bank and Okpekpe road races.

Engr Abdulrahman Inobemhe who is the anchor man for the annual race expressed commitment of the Illustrious Club to continue to facilitate the good gesture being sponsored by Fidson Drugs Plc, UBA pharmacy and SfH.

Usagbe Marathon Competition is another initiative in line with the club’s commitment to the development of Weppa and Wanno communities
