68 million Northern Nigerians are Active on the Internet

CEM REPORT | The Nigerian Bureau of Statistics in their last report on the Nigerian telecom industry for the first quarter of 2022, reveals that 68.53 million (68,531,602) Northern Nigeria are active on the internet out of the total of 199.56 million (199.558,540) active internet subscribers recorded in the quarter .

This figure which cover the three Northern geopolitical zones is a 4.219% increase from the 65.76 million recorded in the last quarter of 2021.

According to the Q1 2022 report, active internet users in the North Central are 27,476,820, a 3.32% improvement from the figure recorded in Q4 2021 which stood at 26,593,200. In the same vein, North West and North East Active Internet users also had an increase of 6.02% from 25,383,386 in Q4 2021 to 26,912492 in Q1 2022 and 2.63% from 13,780,489 in Q4 2021 to 14,142290 in Q1 2022.

According to Wikipedia using 2019 figures, Nigerian population is put at 201,135,262. A break down per States excluding FCT brings Northern Nigeria population to 105,323,760. With this figure, percentage by population of active internet users in the Northern Nigeria stands at 65.067%

The Q4 2021 NBS telecom report shows that Kano came second after Lagos while in Q1 2022, it came third after Lagos and Ogun States.
