CEM REPORT | The UEFA Champions League (UCL) 2021/2022 has come to a close with Real Madrid lifting he prestigious European trophy.

Spanish giants, Real Madrid locked horn with English giants, Liverpool and in Paris, France for the most famous piece of silverware in European club football. This makes it the third time the two sides have met in European cup final.

Away from the thrill of the game, each club that made it to the league is rewarded in cash. Winning in Champions League can change the fortune of any club.

However the total money a team receives depends in how far they get in the competition.

According to Goal.com, winning the Champions League final is worth €20 million (£17m/$22m) and, while losing the final may bring pain and tears, the runner-up receives €15.5 million (£13m/$17m) as a handsome consolation.

Although one team came out victorious every team that participated in the league will earn €15.64 million ($17.7million) for qualifying for the competition.

According to Goal.com the breakdown of the UCL 21/22;

Winner         €20 million ($22.6million)

Runner-up    €15.5 million ($17.5million)

Semi-finalist  €12.5 million ($14.1million)

Quarter-finalist        €10.6 million ($12.0million)

Last 16         €9.9 million ($10.8million)

Group-stage win     €2.8 million ($3.1million)

Group-stage draw   €930,000 ($1.0million)

Qualifying for group stage  €15.64 million ($17.7million)

A team that competes the group stage winning every match in the group stage then proceeds to win the entire competition, will earn a total of €69.8 million (£59m/$77m) in prize money.

The winners of the Champions League, along with victors in the Europa League, also secure a spot in the UEFA Super Cup final.

Qualification for that contest is worth €3.5 million ($4m), while the team that goes on to lift the trophy is rewarded with a further €1 million ($1.1m).

Although Liverpool lost the final of the competition it still has raked in more money than any other club, $90.7million compared to Real Madrid earning $87.6million after losing one of their group stage matches in the UEFA Champions League before the final.

These earning do not matchday or broadcast income which is shared by the participating teams using several factors, meaning their total earnings from the European competition might exceed $100 million.
