ICAN President Inaugurates Lekki District, Task Members on Value Creation

CEM REPORT | The 57th President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Mrs Comfort Olu. Eyitayo, has called on members of the Institute to stand up to their expectation by creating values for their organization in the face of financial crisis.

Mrs Comfort Olu Eyitayo made this call Thursday while delivering her address at the Inauguration of Lekki & District Society of ICAN and Investiture of the Pioneer Chairman of the District, held at the Dover Hotel, Lekki Phase 1

ICAN President emphasized the all-time high demand placed on Accountants for the efficient management of organizational finances. Accountants are expected to take the lead in creating value that would lift organisations, businesses and not-for-profits out of any form of financial crisis.

“The demand on us as professionals is at an all-time high. Chartered Accountants are expected to lead in the efficient management of financial resources. The expectation is that our members will take the lead in creating value that would lift organisations, businesses and not-for-profits out of any form of financial crisis.

“Undoubtedly, as economies and businesses are recovering from the pandemic and navigating the various challenges, Chartered Accountants would play central role in positioning entities on the path to total recovery and surmounting the challenges”; Olu. Eyitayo said.

Lekki & District Society is the 70th District Society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). The President attested to the inauguration of the District as an evidence of expansion of the Accounting Institute.

She said; “The inauguration of Lekki & District Society as the 70th District of the Institute is a testament to the fact that ICAN is growing in leaps and bounds. We are determined to ensure that we meet the growing need for accounting and financial services in our economy.”

Mrs Abidemi Olawumi, FCA is the Pioneer Chairman of the newly created District. Other members who are Fellows of the Institute, include Gbenga Oyewole, Funmilola Olanike Ashade, Onene Osila Obele-Oshoko and Kikelomo Kola-Fasanu.

Others are Sanni Mohammed Olakunle, Adebimpe Yussuph, Okunola Oluwakayode Solomon, Patrick Asese Akamiokhor, Bukky Owoyemi Ogunnowo and Omowunmi Murtala Hassan.

ICAN President, while admonishing the District Chairman, emphasized the need for innovative, creative and futuristic leadership citing the disruption created by the coronavirus (COVID 19) pandemic.

“Since the advent of the coronavirus (COVID 19) pandemic in 2020, the fundamentals have significantly been disrupted and the world has literarily been reset for a new beginning. The pandemic did not only reset global economies, even our noble accounting profession has not been spared from its overarching impact.

“Consequently, economies and our noble profession now, more than ever before, require leaders who are innovative, creative and futuristic”; Olu. Eyitayo said.

She continued by saying “I wish to reiterate to the Chairman and executive that you are assuming a position that affords you immense opportunities to contribute to the noble accountancy profession, especially at this peculiar time in history. The challenging situation facing all economies affords visionary leaders the opportunity to display their innate abilities, surmount challenges and produce results.”

The Chairman of the Lekki District Mrs Abidemi Olawumi, in her acceptance speech, promised to concentrate on the youth who are the future of our nation through the ‘catch them young’ programme of the Institute.

“As a new District, it is our plan to align with all the programmes designed by the Institute for members’ development and growth in the profession of Accountancy, and in general, the creation of the interest of the teeming youth who are the future of our nation in our profession through the ‘catch them young’ programme of the Institute.”

Abidemi said the Lekki District Society plans to achieve the above through Membership Drive, Mentoring and Education Support and ‘Catch Them Young Programme’…

She pledged to serve the District commitment deserved by his appointment by the grace and divine guidance of Almighty God.
